Playing in The Glass Orchestra, touring with Jon Hassell, helping to start a contemporary gamelan ensemble, trading pre-pluderphonic tape pieces with John Oswald, and playing music regularly with James Tenney were not my only activities in the early '80s. I was also composing music in Toronto's very active modern dance community. This 1983 cassette, Out of Running + Longing, was my first self-produced, publicly released album. It included my multitracked music for electronic keyboards and toy pianos from choreographer Allan Risdill's The Bittersuite, with the Toronto Independent Dance Enterprise (TIDE). This cassette also included a concert recording of my 1983 piece for two toy pianos and violin, Studies Out of Running + Longing, performed by me, Jon Siddall, and Anne Lindsay. (This piece was then given its US premiere by NYC's Downtown Ensemble later that year, with Barbara Benary on violin.) This is the first release in my Well-Weathered Music Archives series.

Notes from the original cassette:
This tape presents the music from the dance piece The Bittersuite, choreography by Allan Risdill of the Toronto Independent Dance Enterprise. All the musical material here is part of a work-in-progress for small keyboards and string: Running + Longing. At the end of this tape is a live concert version of the composition Studies Out of Running + Longing for two toy pianos and violin. The other pieces on this tape are studio recordings involving one musician/technician/composer, toy pianos, and a Casiotone 202. Studies Out of Running + Longing is performed on acoustic instruments by Jon Siddall, toy piano; Anne Linday, violin; Miguel Frasconi, toy piano; and was recorded at Hart House, University of Toronto, by Paul Hodge. All the music here was composed by Miguel Frasconi, January - May 1983.
